HIDDEN AGENDAS – Heart agendas that stop us from loving God and others
Hidden Agendas lifts the lid on the human heart, seeking to uncover the agendas that stop us from loving God and others as we should. We seldom stop and listen to our heart and are therefore mostly ignorant of the agendas of our heart, and perhaps unintentionally and unknowingly we serve the hidden agendas and desired outcomes of our own heart rather than serving God and others to the full. Using four biblical pictures we pause to take time and consider our hidden heart agendas, their underlying fears, to identify their demands and problems, and to make us aware of how God wants to apprehend, awaken, shape, and transform our hearts. Through these pictures we consider four major underlying heart agendas that often remain undetected in our lives.
THE MODEL CHURCH – Its essence, expression, and goal
- What is the church to be? What is its essence?
- What is the church to do? What are its expressions?
- What is the church to become? What is its goal?
Can the essence, expression, and goal dimensions of the church be connected? If so how? Providing the answers to these questions is the key to understanding the church and providing effective leadership of the church. However, when church leaders get together the first question they often ask is, “What shall we do now?” Everyone is looking for a good idea, that comes with a step-by-step plan, that after a minimum of thought, all can commit to and follow headlong into exhaustive action.
THE BRETHREN – a historical and theological review
200TH Anniversary Edition 1825 – 2025
The past places us on a path, to determine its destination, we must understand it well. “The Brethren” provides a concise overview of the formation and early years of the Brethren and then presents a compelling analysis of the major theological themes that contributed to its genesis, their implication for us today, and helpful insights for the movement going forward. “He who calls all into unity and community, into a relationship with himself, also calls all in their diversity to be conformed to Christ in their relationship with the world, to serve him by dying to self for the sake of the world and so to glorify his name in the world. This must be the goal!”
